Rudy Gay scored 23 points and rookie guard O.J. Mayo continued to impress with 20 points and nine rebounds. Hakim Warrick finished with 19 points and 10 boards for the Grizzlies. Darrell Arthur added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Memphis, which improved to 3-3 on the season.
Memphis will close out the trip at Phoenix on Monday.
The Nuggets won all four meetings with Memphis last year and have won six of seven and 12 of the past 15 encounters.
Memphis has dropped three straight and 20 of 21 games at the Pepsi Center.
